The Dala horse
Few things are as associated with Sweden as our Dala horse, the one that originated in Mora. It was in the 18th century that the forest workers in the villages around Mora began carving wooden horses in log cabins in the evenings. Much later, in the 1830s, the horses got their characteristic gourd bit pattern. They were eventually sold in the villages and traveled with traders around Sweden.
